After studying constructed textile design at the Royal College of Art in the 1980s, I worked as a textile designer in Italy and Hong Kong before returning to the U.K to set up a textile design studio in London, exhibiting and selling work in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Japan and the U.K. to clients including Ralph Lauren, Missoni, Kenzo, Saks New York and Macy’s.
Painting has always played a large part in my textile design work and in recent years I have been channelling my interests into exploring new experimental painting techniques on paper and canvas rather than fabric, and exhibiting and selling work privately through social media, group shows and open studios. My long career in textile design continues to inform the subject matter of my paintings which include a series of mixed media portraits of garments on paper and canvas using a wide range of processes.
Paintings are built up using layers of textured gesso, watercolours, inks, acrylics or oils and are then sanded and re-worked to develop a unique and enigmatic identity. I also sometimes incorporate my digital textile designs into my paintings using image transfer techniques directly onto the paper or canvas.
My paintings have been sold to collectors in UK, USA, Europe and Australia.
