Suzsi’s mixed-media paintings are built up using layers of textured gesso, watercolour, ink, acrylic or oils then sanded or collaged back together to develop a unique and enigmatic identity. She also occasionally incorporates her digital designs into areas of the paintings using image transfer techniques directly onto the paper or canvas.
She originally studied constructed textile design at the Royal College of Art and her previous career in textiles continues to inform her art process as she constantly explores new, intuitive and inventive processes to enhance a painting’s surface textures.
Her work can be divided into 3 themes which sometimes overlap: mixed-media landscapes incorporating hand-painted collaged papers, cityscapes including iconic London landmarks, and still life paintings of garments.
In addition to exhibiting at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, her paintings have been selected for several of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour exhibitions at the Mall Galleries, the Royal Watercolour Society and several small contemporary galleries group shows.
She lives and works in a converted Victorian school in East Dulwich, London SE22 and takes part in the Dulwich Festival Open Studios every year where the whole studio space is transformed into a large, triple height gallery. Her studio is also open by appointment.
Her work has been sold to a wide range of collectors throughout the UK, Europe, USA, and Australia. Collectors include Dulwich Picture Gallery as a gift for one of their trustees, a Silicone Valley billionaire, a Hollywood film producer, a magician, a forensic tax investigator and a stand-up comedienne amongst many others.
